Trauma Counseling & Therapy
Learn to Heal From the Past and Start Moving Forward with Confidence and Optimism
If you’re constantly on edge, easily triggered, always waiting for the next shoe to drop, find yourself repeatedly in unfulfilling relationships, or just feel lost, emotionally detached, or numb – disconnected from others and from yourself – it’s likely you’re carrying some unresolved trauma.
You may feel raw, overwhelmed, or just … tired. Tired of carrying the weight of things that have happened to you. Tired of trying to explain how you’re feeling when no one else seems to fully understand. And tired of not knowing why you feel this way – or how to feel better.
If any of this sounds familiar, I want you to know that you’re not alone.
I understand the profound impact that trauma can have on your life. And I’m here to let you know that you don’t have to stay stuck in the pain of the past.
Healing is possible. Safety is possible. A more peaceful and connected life is possible.
I also know trauma can be a rather emotionally charged term …
When most people think of trauma, they think of surviving wars, physical assaults, automobile accidents, natural disasters, and similar big “T” traumatic events.
But the truth is that ANY experience that leaves you feeling threatened, emotionally isolated, or alone can be traumatic.
In other words, repeated exposure to little “t” traumas – such as suffering emotional abuse or neglect from parents, primary caregivers, or toxic partners, or bullying by siblings and peers – can be just as traumatic as living through a life-threatening event.
Unfortunately, many people don’t recognize some experiences as being “traumatic” because they don’t fit the traditional definition. But your nervous system remembers. Your body holds on. And your brain – trying to protect you – may still be operating from a place of hyper-vigilance, avoidance, or fear.
You may find yourself:
- Reacting intensely to things that “shouldn’t” be a big deal
- Feeling shut down or emotionally numb
- Struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, or general irritability
- Avoiding certain people, places, or situations
- aving flashbacks or disturbing memories
- Feeling detached from your own body or experiences
- Carrying shame, guilt, or confusion without knowing why
All of these are normal responses to trauma – not signs that something is wrong with you. They are signs that something painful happened to you – and your mind and body have been doing everything they can to protect you and cope.
But you don’t have to live in survival mode forever.
Whether you are dealing with PTSD, complex trauma (C-PTSD), anxiety, or attachment trauma, trauma counseling and therapy can help you move beyond coping and toward healing and growth.
How Trauma Counseling & Therapy Can Help
Trauma counseling and therapy are designed to help you gently acknowledge and process what you’ve been through, reconnect with yourself, and develop new ways of relating to your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
This isn’t about reliving the trauma or “pushing through the pain” – it’s about creating safety, building trust, and allowing healing to happen at your own pace.
Through our work together, you can begin to:
- Understand how trauma has shaped your emotional and physical responses to other people and events
- Release shame and self-blame
- Reconnect with your body in safe, supportive ways
- Cultivate a deep sense of safety and stability within yourself
- Improve your inner resilience and sense of self-worth
- Create healthier relationships with others and with yourself that are based on trust and authenticity
Perhaps most important of all, you can begin to redefine who you are beyond what you’ve gone through.
When working with trauma, safety is everything. That’s why trauma counseling and therapy with me is always collaborative, client-led, and grounded in trust.
I’ll never pressure you to share anything before you’re ready, and there’s no “right” way to heal.
Together, we’ll create a space where you can breathe, slow down, and explore whatever’s coming up – gently, and with curiosity.
I bring a variety of trauma-informed approaches to our work, including:
- Somatic Therapy: By addressing the physical manifestations of trauma, we can help you release stored tension and develop healthier responses to stress. Incorporating gentle self-awareness, healthy coping skills, and effective healing techniques can help your body become a place you feel at home in once again.
- Mindfulness Practices: We’ll use various mindfulness techniques to help you stay grounded and present, increase awareness, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional regulation.
- Brainspotting: This is a powerful, neuroscience-informed method that targets specific points in your visual field to access and process traumatic memories. While it’s similar to EMDR, many of my clients have found it much easier to implement and benefit from, as it doesn’t involve the need to directly talk through any trauma.
- Pet-Assisted Therapy: I’ve found the comfort and joy that animals bring to be invaluable in helping many clients on their healing journey.
Taken together, these modalities give you the power to heal at a pace you feel comfortable with and can control.
Some sessions may involve deep exploration, while others may be more focused on calming your nervous system and helping you feel safe. But, no matter what, we’ll always move at your pace and follow what feels right for you.
Am I the Best Trauma Therapist for You?
The success of any therapeutic journey depends on a strong, trusting connection between the client and the therapist. When you feel understood and respected, the healing process can be much more effective.
This is one of the main reasons why no one clinician can be the “right” or “best” trauma therapist for every client.
That being said, many of my clients have told me how much they appreciate how safe and validated they’ve felt in our work together.
Many arrive feeling hesitant or unsure about whether they’re “ready” to process their experiences – but over time, they begin to notice things shifting.
They feel more present. More capable. More themselves.
Because I also work with clients who are Christian or faith-oriented, many people find comfort in knowing their healing process can include spiritual aspects when that feels important. If that’s not something you want, that’s completely okay too. I’ll always honor your beliefs, values, and comfort level.
Above all, my goal is to help you feel:
- Seen without judgment
- Heard without pressure
- Empowered to reclaim your story
You don’t have to hold it all together. You don’t have to explain it perfectly. You just have to show up – and we’ll take it from there, together.
As you engage in trauma counseling and therapy, you may begin to:
- Feel less reactive and more in control of your emotions
- Rest and sleep more peacefully
- Experience fewer triggers – or manage them with greater ease
- Reclaim your sense of agency and identity
- Feel connected to your body again, instead of numb or overwhelmed
- Let go of shame and start trusting yourself again
These changes don’t happen overnight – but they do happen. And each step you take toward healing is a step toward the life you desire and deserve.
Of course, the only way to really find out whether I’m the best trauma therapist for you is to contact me, schedule a free, initial consultation, and see if we’re a good fit.
I know it can feel scary to reach out for help – especially when your past has taught you that opening up and trusting others is dangerous. But since you’re reading this, something in you is already seeking help and healing.
That’s a powerful beginning.
Whether you’re struggling with a recent big “T” trauma or little “t” trauma that you’ve carried for years, you are worthy of support. You are allowed to heal. And you don’t have to do it alone.
If you’re ready, I invite you to contact me today, schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation, and take the first step towards healing from the past and moving forward again with greater peace of mind, confidence, and optimism.
